Dorothy Cochran is an accomplished East Coast printmaker, acknowledged for her expertise and broad command of multiple print methods. She has twice received a New Jersey State Council on the Arts Fellowship and is honored for her dedication to teaching and curatorial work for other artists. She is represented in both private and corporate art collections such as The New York Public Library, The Free Library of Philadelphia, Bristol Myers Squibb, Sloan Kettering, Prudential Life Insurance Company and several museum collections including The Museum of Modern Art, The National Gallery of Art, Georgia Museum of Fine Art, and the Zimmerli Art Museum of Rutgers University.

Ms. Cochran has exhibited extensively throughout the country in museums, universities and galleries including the Art Complex Museum in Duxbury, Massachusetts (selected by David Kiehl, Curator of Prints at The Whitney Museum), Provincetown Museum of Art, UMA Gallery, New York City and Franklin54+Projects in Chelsea. In 2016 she was one of 50 artists chosen from 1,300 for the New Jersey Arts Annual at the Noyes Museum of Art, also being selected by curator Mary Birmingham into Viewpoints, an International contemporary art exhibition at Aljira Gallery and represented at Montclair University’s, George Segal Gallery as part of Art Connections 13. In 2017 she was awarded First Prize in the 11th International Miniature Print Exhibition at The Center for Contemporary Printmaking in Norwalk, CT by Freyda Spira, Associate Curator of Prints and Drawings at The Metropolitan Museum of Art for her Silk Aquatints. Other exhibitions include the Left Bank Gallery in Wellfleet, MA, Adam Peck Gallery and Kobalt Gallery in Provincetown, MA, and JVS Project Space in NYC. She has been an invited artist for several years at the Hui No’eau Art Center in, Maui, Hawaii and will again visit in 2018.

The Print Club of New York has selected her for the 2018 Artists Showcase to present her works to members/collectors. In June of 2017 she was a presenter at the Eleventh International Encaustic Conference, in Provincetown, MA after being featured in 2012-16. In the recent past she was a panelist at the Fifth, discussing the topic, “What a Juror Sees.” Additional art engagements have included an artist talk and workshop at the Manhattan Graphics Center, New York City, collaborative artist book projects, a visiting artist residency in San Antonio, Texas, and several corporate commissions. Ms. Cochran has taught at Columbia University’s School of the Arts, the City University of New York in Staten Island, Bergen Community College and Castle Hill Center for the Arts in Truro, Massachusetts. She is a popular lecturer and workshop leader throughout the country and conducts printmaking workshops at the Central Coast Printmakers in San Luis Obispo, CA, Snow Farm, Williamsburg, MA, and Northeast Art Workshop Retreats, Gloucester, MA.

Ms. Cochran has an MFA in Printmaking from Columbia University and a MA and BA in painting from Montclair University in New Jersey. She was the Director/Curator of the Galleries at The Interchurch Center in New York City for 23 years and is the current Chair of Printmaking at the Art School in Demarest, New Jersey and faculty member at The Montclair Art Museum, Yard School of Art. She is a former Board member of the National Association of Women Artists, NYC where she served as the Chair of the Nominating and Governance Committee and is an active member of Studio Montclair and an invited member of The Society of American Graphic Artists (SAGA).
